That was one of the first Joe Rogan quotes I wanted to turn into a song, for as long as I remember being aware of it, yet for reasons known only to the gods, it did not make the beloved debut Joe Rogan Meaningwave LP, Experience, and instead lay dormant, patiently waiting for its time.

That time came in the Spring of ‘23, when I was finishing MEANINGWAVE MASTERPIECES IV, and had a very specific tone missing. I was poring through my goliath MEANINGWAVE IDEAS spreadsheet, clicking on video and podcast clips, when a voice suddenly instructed me to leave that blessed spreadsheet be, and visit a part of a hard drive that had remained undisturbed for many years. I listened to the voice, as I have learned to do, and navigated to a dusty, light-starved sector of one of my hard drives, where lay a folder that was the first draft of what would become that Joe Rogan LP. And lo, there it lay:

I opened the thing, and it was as if a bright light beamed forth from my monitor, like The Argonauts Golden Fleece, like that suitcase in Pulp Fiction. There was the sample, in all its glory, and within about half a dreamlike hour the song had taken form - the chords, bass, some strings, a rough guitar part, the chorus melody. I excitedly sent the thing to my guitarist to replay my rough parts and moved my attention, and that ever increasingly powerful musical momentum straight on to the next song (which you’ll hear next week), forgetting about JOE ROGAN MY FAVOURITE STORIES EPIC NUKE SONG, until the guitar parts returned, upon which point I was able to listen to it as if for the first time, which I did, with a great big smile on my face, for it was just as I had imagined all those years hence.
